Capturing Vermilion Peak, Pilot Knob, Golden Horn, and Fuller Peak from this elevated ridge offers one of the most phenomenal panorama views in the San Juan Mountains. As you ascend the trail, you are presented with multiple distinct vantage points facing different mountain ranges, but this specific overlook directs your line of sight east-northeast across the basin toward these four prominent 13ers.
The high concentration of iron and mineral deposits across these peaks creates striking red, orange, and gray rock layers that contrast sharply against the dark evergreen forest below. Because of the open, high-elevation ridge position, this specific location yields exceptional photography results regardless of when you shoot, though targeting sunset is key if you want to catch the red rock faces glowing in late light.
